Monteriggioni
Siena - Tuscany

Italian village in the province of Siena in Tuscany. Monteriggioni Castle was built by the people of Siena with the aim of monitoring the Via Francigena, to control the valleys of the Elsa and the Staggia in the direction of Florence, a Siena historic rival. The circular path of the wall was obtained by following the natural contour of the hill, Mount Ala. In its territory there are numerous places of historical and artistic importance, including the Church of Santa Maria in Castello and the Abbey of the Holy Salvatore and Cirino. In this wonderful medieval setting was born "In Festa Monteriggioni di torri si corona" a medieval spectacle in a setting of extraordinary beauty.
