Bologna, located in the Po Valley, close to the Apennine hills, is an ancient university town, famous for its towers and its long arcades. The noble towers of Bologna, of medieval origin, are one of the most characteristic features of the city. There are several notable churches in Bologna such as the Basilica of San Petronio in Piazza Maggiore, the Church of St. Francis. The complex of Santo Stefano is called 'The Seven Churches' because of the many churches and chapels connected by a courtyard. Noteworthy also is the cathedral of St. Peter, St. James the Greater and the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi. Also there is the famous Università l’Accademia delle Belle Arti and the museum network.
